SHALLOW & BEAST Recap, Survivor 50 Episode 9
Published: 2026-04-24
Christian forced to vote for himself, eliminated 6-3-2
TL;DR: Christian Hubicki is voted out 6-3-2 after a journey twist compels him to write his own name at tribal council. His -67.4 is the fourth-largest single-episode SHALLOW loss this season. Tiffany's +36.2 is the largest single-episode gain any player has produced in US50. Joe wins individual immunity and pushes his BEAST rating to 1682.1, the highest active mark of the season. Cirie extends her US50 vote record to 19W-0L.
Episode Summary: SurvivorElo Episode 9
Quick refresher: SHALLOW rates strategic positioning (voting correctly + outlasting). BEAST rates challenge performance. Both use Elo, so gains and losses depend on relative ratings. Full methodology at survivorelo.com.
Episode 9: What Happened
Eleven players entered. Christian returned from a journey holding an advantage that required him to vote for himself at tribal and prevented his vote from being stolen or nullified. Joe won individual immunity. Christian had earlier pitched Cirie on voting Ozzy, and Cirie passed the plan to Ozzy. The vote split 6-3-2: six on Christian (including his own self-vote), three on Rick from a faction trying to flush a suspected idol, two on Ozzy. Christian was eliminated and became the fourth member of the jury.
Christian's Self-Vote
Christian entered the episode at 1643.0, A-tier, and the highest-rated US50 player other than Cirie. He left at 1575.6, B-tier. His -67.4 is the fourth-largest single-episode SHALLOW loss of the season, behind Dee, Coach, and Chrissy.
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Pre-Episode 9 | 1643.0 (A) |
| Post-Episode 9 | 1575.6 (B) |
| Episode Change | -67.4 |
| Vote Losses | 0W-5L |
| Outlast Losses | 0W-10L |
| Season Total | +14.9 |
The model registered a forced self-vote as a wrong vote. Christian lost five vote matchups against the players who voted correctly (Cirie, Aubry, Rizo, Joe, Tiffany) and ten outlast losses against the surviving field. Sixteen consecutive correct US50 votes across eight episodes are now offset by a single tribal in which he was prevented from voting against anyone but himself.
The model does not see the journey. It does not register that Christian was the only player in Survivor history compelled to write his own name down at tribal, that the vote against him gathered before the twist activated, or that his own paranoia had already put him in the seat. It sees a 0W-5L vote line, ten outlast losses, and a 67.4-point drop.
His season change is now +14.9, down from +82.3 entering the episode. He is the second-highest-rated juror on the season behind Coach (1560.5 at exit; Christian exits at 1575.6).
Tiffany's Second Run
Tiffany followed her +23.5 in Episode 8 with a +36.2 in Episode 9. Her +36.2 is the largest single-episode SHALLOW gain by any player this season.
| Player | Pre-Ep9 | Post-Ep9 | Ep9 Change | Season Vote Record | Season Change |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tiffany | 1497.8 (C) | 1534.0 (B) | +36.2 | 11W-15L | +21.6 |
Two factors compound the gain. Tiffany was the lowest-rated correct voter at tribal, which the Elo formula rewards more heavily than wins by higher-rated players. Christian, the wrong-voter she beat in matchup terms, was the second-highest-rated player in the tribal. The combination produced her largest one-episode movement of any season she has played.
Her two-episode run of +59.7 (Episodes 8 and 9) flips a season trajectory that was -38.1 entering Episode 8. She crosses out of C-tier into B and her season change turns positive for the first time. The model now sees a player who has been on the right side of eleven of her last eleven matchups after going zero-for-fifteen in her first two tribals.
The Five Who Missed
Five players voted against Rick or Ozzy. Each lost five vote matchups against the five-player majority that voted Christian. None had outlast losses, since Christian was the only boot.
| Player | Pre-Ep9 | Post-Ep9 | Ep9 Change | Vote (Cast) | Season Change |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Emily | 1633.9 (A) | 1616.4 (A) | -17.5 | Ozzy | +67.6 |
| Stephenie | 1610.0 (A) | 1594.1 (A) | -15.9 | Rick | +31.5 |
| Rick | 1582.5 (B) | 1568.4 (B) | -14.1 | Ozzy | +34.5 |
| Jonathan | 1571.3 (B) | 1558.0 (B) | -13.3 | Rick | -36.6 |
| Ozzy | 1537.8 (B) | 1526.6 (C) | -11.2 | Rick | +65.0 |
Emily's loss is the largest of the five, in part because she had the most to lose. She entered the episode at 1633.9, the highest-rated wrong-voter, and the formula penalizes higher-rated losses more heavily. Her season-long perfect vote record ends at 16W-5L. Christian's also ends at 16W-5L, since both voted incorrectly in the same tribal.
Ozzy slips back into C-tier, having spent only one episode above the threshold. Jonathan's season change is now -36.6, the worst of any active player and the second-worst of any player to reach the merge.
The Majority Holds, Again
Five players voted Christian and gained big. Each earned 6W-0L on votes (the five wrong-voters plus Christian himself, whose forced self-vote counted as a sixth correct-vote matchup against him).
| Player | Pre-Ep9 | Post-Ep9 | Ep9 Change | Season Change | Season Votes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tiffany | 1497.8 (C) | 1534.0 (B) | +36.2 | +21.6 | 11W-15L |
| Aubry | 1576.2 (B) | 1606.4 (A) | +30.2 | +71.2 | 14W-0L |
| Rizo | 1604.1 (A) | 1632.0 (A) | +27.9 | +74.5 | 16W-0L |
| Joe | 1616.7 (A) | 1643.7 (A) | +27.0 | +80.2 | 16W-0L |
| Cirie | 1729.1 (S) | 1747.5 (S) | +18.4 | +64.5 | 19W-0L |
Two players cross tier lines on the gain. Aubry moves from B to A. Tiffany moves from C to B. Cirie's +18.4 is again the smallest gain in the majority, the same Elo tax that has constrained her every episode this season.
Five active US50 players still hold perfect vote records: Cirie at 19W-0L, Joe and Rizo at 16W-0L each, Aubry at 14W-0L, and the now-eliminated Christian at 16W-5L. Half the field has never been on the wrong side of a vote when they participated.

Quick Hits
Cirie reaches 1747.5, her highest rating in any season. Her US50 entering rating of 1683 was the highest in the cast. Nine episodes later she is 64.5 points above it, with a vote record the model has not seen from any other player at this game length: 19 correct votes, zero wrong, across all five tribals she has attended.
Joe is the only active player gaining on Cirie. His +80.2 leads all active players in season change. He has gained 80 points to Cirie's 64; the gap between them is now 104, down from 119 entering the season. No other active player is closer than 130 points to Cirie's rating.
The 6-3-2 looked like a split vote, but it was not. A coordinated split vote is when one alliance distributes its votes across two targets to flush an idol; both targets count as correct under the model's split-vote logic. Episode 9 produced three factions pursuing three different targets: Cirie's group of five voted Christian, a separate group of three (Jonathan, Stephenie, Ozzy) voted Rick on idol-paranoia, and Rick and Emily voted Ozzy. The data is not flagged as a split vote and the model treated only Christian-voters as correct. The result is five different drops between -10 and -20 points, all three faction shifts visible in the ratings.
BEAST Update
Joe won individual immunity and posted the largest BEAST gain of any player this season.
| Player | Pre-Ep9 BEAST | Post-Ep9 BEAST | Ep9 Change | W-L |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Joe | 1644.6 | 1682.1 | +37.6 | 10W-0L |
| Jonathan | 1450.1 | 1498.2 | +48.1 | 8W-2L |
| Ozzy | 1595.9 | 1628.3 | +32.4 | 9W-1L |
| Tiffany | 1493.7 | 1518.7 | +25.0 | 7W-3L |
| Rizo | 1376.0 | 1327.2 | -48.9 | 0W-10L |
| Rick | 1451.2 | 1415.1 | -36.1 | 2W-8L |
| Emily | 1369.5 | 1335.9 | -33.6 | 1W-9L |
Joe's 1682.1 is the highest active BEAST rating any US50 player has held. He has won immunity in two of the three post-merge episodes and his +80.2 SHALLOW gain leads the season. The model now sees the most balanced two-axis profile among active players.
Jonathan's +48.1 is the single largest BEAST gain of any player this episode, even though Joe won the challenge. The asymmetry comes from Jonathan's lower entering BEAST rating and a higher win count against challenge-strong opponents. Rizo's -48.9 is the largest BEAST drop of the season for any player.
Compare: Joe vs. Cirie
The two highest-rated active players, with opposite gain profiles.
| SHALLOW | Tier | Season Change | US50 Votes | BEAST | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cirie | 1747.5 | S | +64.5 | 19W-0L | 1362.0 |
| Joe | 1643.7 | A | +80.2 | 16W-0L | 1682.1 |
Cirie holds the higher SHALLOW rating; Joe holds the higher BEAST. Cirie is the strategic anchor, Joe the challenge anchor. Both have perfect vote records on the season. Joe has gained more SHALLOW points overall because he started 119 below Cirie, the Elo tax in reverse: lower starting position, higher per-win returns. The 104-point SHALLOW gap is real, but Joe is the only player whose two-axis profile rivals Cirie's, and his BEAST rating is 320 points higher than hers. The model rates Cirie the better strategist and Joe the better physical player; no one else in the field is close to either.
