SHALLOW & BEAST Recap, Survivor 50 Episode 8
Published: 2026-04-17
Coach and Chrissy fall together in Survivor's first 10-1-1 vote
TL;DR: Survivor's first paired tribal council eliminates Coach and Chrissy together, 10-1-1. Coach's -74.2 and Chrissy's -73.6 are the second- and third-largest single-episode SHALLOW losses of the season, behind only Dee's -107.3 from Episode 7. Tiffany breaks her 0W-15L season streak with five correct vote matchups in one night and gains +23.5, her first positive episode. Joe and Tiffany win paired individual immunity; Cirie sits out as the odd-numbered player and is sent to Exile with safety guaranteed.
Episode Summary: SurvivorElo Episode 8
Quick refresher: SHALLOW rates strategic positioning (voting correctly + outlasting). BEAST rates challenge performance. Both use Elo, so gains and losses depend on relative ratings. Full methodology at survivorelo.com.
Episode 8: What Happened
Thirteen players entered the post-merge episode. The "Tied Destinies" twist paired everyone except Cirie, who drew the odd number and was sent to Exile with individual immunity. Joe and Tiffany won paired individual immunity. Coach played his Shot in the Dark. It came up "NOT SAFE." The remaining majority targeted the Coach + Chrissy pair. The vote was 10-1-1. Coach and Chrissy had their torches snuffed back-to-back, the first time in US Survivor history that two players were voted out together.
A Pair Goes Down Together
Coach entered the episode at 1634.7, the highest post-merge rating he had reached. He left at 1560.5. Chrissy entered at 1554.6 and left at 1481.0. Their combined -147.8 is the largest single-episode SHALLOW damage to a pair of players the season has produced.
| Player | Pre-Ep8 | Post-Ep8 | Episode Change | Vote Record (Ep) | Outlast (Ep) | Season Change |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coach | 1634.7 (A) | 1560.5 (B) | -74.2 | 0W-10L | 1W-12L | -57.3 |
| Chrissy | 1554.6 (B) | 1481.0 (C) | -73.6 | 0W-20L | 1W-12L | -48.0 |
Coach's loss has two components. First, Shot in the Dark counted as a non-vote in the tribal that booted Chrissy. The model registered no vote matchup at all for that round; he gained no wins, but he avoided losses against the ten who voted Chrissy. Second, on the round that booted him, his vote was missing and he was eliminated. That produced ten vote losses and twelve outlast losses against the surviving players.
Chrissy's loss is larger in vote terms. She voted Emily on the first round (a stray) and is recorded with a vote on the second round despite already being eliminated, both of which the model treated as wrong. Twenty vote losses in a single episode is the highest count any US50 player has accumulated in one tribal night.
The model does not see the twist. It does not register that Coach and Chrissy were locked together by the rules, that neither could vote separately to save themselves, that Coach's Shot in the Dark was a desperation play rather than an arrogant one. It sees two players on the wrong side of every matchup the night could produce.
Tiffany's Reversal
Tiffany entered the season at 1512.4 and reached Episode 8 at 1474.3, with a 0W-15L vote record across two prior tribals. She voted Chrissy on the first round and Coach on the second. Both were correct.
| Player | Pre-Ep8 | Post-Ep8 | Episode Change | Season Vote Record | Season Change |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tiffany | 1474.3 (C) | 1497.8 (C) | +23.5 | 5W-15L | -14.6 |
Her +23.5 is the largest single-episode SHALLOW gain by any player this season. Lower-rated players gain more per win in Elo, and Tiffany was the lowest-rated player at tribal. The model now sees a player who has been on the wrong side of fifteen matchups and the right side of five, all in two tribals. The signal is still negative on the season, but no longer unambiguous.
Jonathan's Quiet Bleed
Jonathan voted Aubry on the first round and Rick on the second. Both were strays; nobody else joined either vote.
| Player | Pre-Ep8 | Post-Ep8 | Episode Change | Season Vote Record | Season Change |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jonathan | 1604.3 (A) | 1571.3 (B) | -33.0 | 4W-24L | -23.3 |
Two stray votes in one night is unusual. The model registered twenty vote losses, ten per round, against every player who voted with the majority. The +9.6 outlast bump from Coach and Chrissy's elimination softened the hit, but Jonathan dropped from A-tier to B and his season change turned firmly negative. He is now the only A-tier player to enter the merge and lose his tier within two episodes.
The Majority Holds
Ten players voted with the majority on both rounds. Each earned 5W-0L on votes (the model treats the paired tribal as five distinct correct-vote matchups). Cirie did not vote at the tribal but received the same +2 outlast bonuses as everyone else.
| Player | Pre-Ep8 | Post-Ep8 | Ep8 Change | Season Change | Season Votes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tiffany | 1474.3 (C) | 1497.8 (C) | +23.5 | -14.6 | 5W-15L |
| Ozzy | 1516.3 (C) | 1537.8 (B) | +21.5 | +76.2 | 12W-3L |
| Aubry | 1556.7 (B) | 1576.2 (B) | +19.5 | +41.0 | 8W-0L |
| Rick | 1563.3 (B) | 1582.5 (B) | +19.2 | +48.6 | 10W-4L |
| Rizo | 1586.1 (B) | 1604.1 (A) | +18.0 | +46.6 | 10W-0L |
| Stephenie | 1592.3 (A) | 1610.0 (A) | +17.7 | +47.4 | 13W-5L |
| Joe | 1599.4 (A) | 1616.7 (A) | +17.3 | +53.2 | 10W-0L |
| Emily | 1617.5 (A) | 1633.9 (A) | +16.4 | +85.1 | 16W-0L |
| Christian | 1627.1 (A) | 1643.0 (A) | +15.9 | +82.3 | 16W-0L |
| Cirie | 1717.5 (S) | 1729.1 (S) | +11.6 | +46.1 | 13W-0L |
Ozzy's +21.5 is the second-largest single-episode gain among voters this episode, behind Tiffany. Both are the lowest-rated players in the majority and both gained the most because of it. Cirie's +11.6 is the smallest, the same Elo tax that has limited her gains all season.
Three players now hold perfect US50 vote records of 10W-0L or better: Emily and Christian at 16W-0L, Joe and Rizo at 10W-0L, Cirie at 13W-0L, and Aubry at 8W-0L. Five players in a thirteen-person tribe have not been on the wrong side of a single vote.

Quick Hits
Coach was the third-highest-rated active player entering the merge. He reached 1634.7 after Episode 7, behind only Cirie and Christian. He leaves at 1560.5, a 74-point drop in a single tribal. Dee in Episode 7 and Coach in Episode 8 are the only US50 players this season eliminated from inside A-tier.
Emily and Christian are still untouchable. Both reach 16W-0L on US50 votes, eight tribals deep with zero wrong votes between them. Emily leads the season at +85.1; Christian is at +82.3. The gap to the next-best season change (Ozzy's +76.2) has held within ten points for three episodes.
Ozzy crosses out of C-tier. His +21.5 pushed him from 1516.3 to 1537.8, his first time above the B-tier threshold. He entered the season at 1462, the lowest of any returning player, and has now climbed 76 points in eight episodes.
BEAST Update
The paired immunity challenge produced the largest BEAST swings of the season. Joe and Tiffany won together; the model treated each as a team-immunity winner against all ten losing players.
| Player | Pre-Ep8 BEAST | Post-Ep8 BEAST | Ep8 Change | W-L |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tiffany | 1461.3 | 1493.7 | +32.4 | 10W-0L |
| Joe | 1625.1 | 1644.6 | +19.4 | 10W-0L |
Tiffany's +32.4 is her largest BEAST gain and pushes her over the C-tier threshold for the first time. Joe's +19.4 confirms his position as the highest-rated active BEAST player; his 1644.6 is the only active rating above 1640. The other ten players each lost 0.7 to 1.5 points as challenge losers.
Compare: Coach and Chrissy
Two players who started the merge in tier-positive territory and exited together.
| SHALLOW Entering | SHALLOW Final | Season Change | US50 Votes | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coach | 1617.8 | 1560.5 | -57.3 | 3W-10L |
| Chrissy | 1529.0 | 1481.0 | -48.0 | 4W-20L |
Coach lost more points despite having fewer vote losses. He started higher; an A-tier player loses more from elimination than a B-tier player does. Chrissy lost more vote matchups, in part because the data continued to register her as a voter on the round after her own elimination. The Tied Destinies twist did not distinguish between them at the show level. The model registered different reasons for the same outcome, with Coach's loss driven by his entering rating and Chrissy's by the volume of failed vote matchups. Both fell into the bottom four of season changes among players who reached the merge.
