The Blood Moon Broke the Game Open
Published: 2026-04-03
SHALLOW & BEAST Recap, Survivor 50 Episode 6
TL;DR: The merge arrives at 17 players and immediately splinters. The Blood Moon twist forces three simultaneous tribal councils, eliminating Kamilla (3-2), Genevieve (4-0), and Colby (4-0). Ozzy and Rizo skip all three tribals from Exile Island, keeping their idols and avoiding damage. Chrissy Hofbeck gains the most SHALLOW in a single episode this week (+12.5) among active players, attending her first tribal and voting correctly. Emily Flippen extends her season lead to +57.8, and Christian Hubicki is right behind at +55.8. Six previously untested players finally enter the model's view.
Episode Summary: SurvivorElo Episode 6
Quick refresher: SHALLOW rates strategic positioning (voting correctly + outlasting). BEAST rates challenge performance. Both use Elo, so gains and losses depend on relative ratings. Full methodology at survivorelo.com.
Episode 6: What Happened
The 17 remaining players merged on Day 12, then were immediately split into three groups of five for the Blood Moon twist. Ozzy found an Exile Island advantage and brought Rizo with him; both skipped tribal entirely. Dee, Christian, and Stephenie won immunity in their respective groups. Three tribal councils followed. Kamilla was voted out 3-2 (Jonathan, Stephenie, and Chrissy voted Kamilla; Kamilla and Tiffany voted Chrissy). Genevieve was voted out 4-0 after playing her Shot in the Dark unsuccessfully (Christian, Rick, Aubry, and Joe voted Genevieve). Colby was voted out 4-0 with a lost vote from a journey (Cirie, Coach, Dee, and Emily voted Colby).
Six Players Enter the Model
Last week's recap noted that six players on Kalo had never attended a tribal council. The merge fixed that. Coach, Colby, Genevieve, Aubry, Chrissy, and Tiffany all faced their first SHALLOW-rated event of the season in Episode 6.
The results split cleanly. Three voted correctly and gained. Three did not.
| Player | Pre-Ep6 | Post-Ep6 | Ep6 Change | Vote Record | Result |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chrissy | 1529 (B) | 1542 (B) | +12.5 | 2W-0L | Correct |
| Aubry | 1535 (B) | 1544 (B) | +8.4 | 1W-0L | Correct |
| Coach | 1618 (A) | 1624 (A) | +6.6 | 1W-0L | Correct |
| Tiffany | 1512 (C) | 1507 (C) | -5.8 | 0W-3L | Wrong side |
| Colby | 1554 (B) | 1529 (B) | -25.1 | 0W-4L | Eliminated |
| Genevieve | 1553 (B) | 1522 (C) | -30.7 | 0W-4L | Eliminated |
Chrissy's +12.5 is the largest single-episode SHALLOW gain of any active player this week. She voted correctly and outlasted Kamilla. Her entering rating (1529) was low enough that each correct matchup earned above-average points. The model's first impression is strong.
Coach's +6.6 is smaller because his entering rating (1618, A-tier) is substantially higher. He voted correctly and outlasted Colby, but each win is worth less against a lower-rated opponent when you are already near the top. This is the standard Elo tax on high-rated players.
Tiffany's result is the worst of the survivors. She voted for Chrissy (the wrong target) and absorbed three vote losses against Jonathan, Stephenie, and Chrissy. She survived only because Kamilla received more votes. The outlast bonus from Kamilla's elimination (+4.5) partially offset the vote damage, but she still drops 5.8 points. One tribal, and the model already sees a player who was outside the majority.
Colby and Genevieve both entered with no season data and left with nothing but losses. Colby's situation is particularly notable: he had a lost vote from a journey, meaning he could not vote at all. The model does not care why. It sees four vote losses and an elimination. His -25.1 drop is the price of attending one tribal and going home.
Genevieve played her Shot in the Dark and it came up "NOT SAFE." The model registered four vote losses (one against each of Christian, Aubry, Joe, and Rick) and the elimination. She drops 30.7 points, the largest single-episode loss of any player this week. The model does not know that the Blood Moon twist randomly assigned her to a group where she was drawing dead. It sees four losses and an elimination; it cannot distinguish bad luck from bad play.
Jonathan's Redemption Vote
Jonathan Young entered Episode 6 with a 0W-4L vote record from the Charlie tribal. The model saw a player who survived but was entirely outside the strategic loop. This week he voted correctly for the first time.
| Player | Pre-Ep6 | Post-Ep6 | Ep6 Change | Season Change | Vote Record |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jonathan | 1582 (B) | 1593 (A) | +10.7 | -1.7 | 2W-4L |
Jonathan sided with Chrissy and Stephenie against Kamilla, earning two vote wins (one against Kamilla, one against Tiffany) plus an outlast bonus. His +10.7 is the second-largest SHALLOW gain this episode behind Chrissy. He crosses back into A-tier at 1593.
But the season total tells a different story. Jonathan is at -1.7 for the season. The Episode 5 damage (four vote losses from the Charlie blindside) was deep enough that one correct vote does not erase it. He is the only active player with a negative season change. The model sees a player who was on the wrong side of the biggest vote of the pre-merge and has only partially recovered.
Exile Island: The Free Pass
Ozzy and Rizo spent Episode 6 on Exile Island. Neither attended tribal. Neither gained or lost SHALLOW points.
| Player | Pre-Ep6 | Post-Ep6 | Ep6 Change | Season Change |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ozzy | 1502 (C) | 1502 (C) | 0.0 | +40.3 |
| Rizo | 1574 (B) | 1574 (B) | 0.0 | +16.5 |
The model cannot evaluate what did not happen. It does not know that Ozzy found the advantage, chose Rizo strategically, or that both kept their idols while Genevieve (who had given them Boomerang Idol advantages) was voted out in their absence. It sees two players who did not play this round.
In a triple-elimination episode, not playing is itself a result. Three players went home. Ozzy and Rizo were never at risk. Whether that was skill or luck, the model has nothing to say about it. Their ratings are frozen until the next time they attend tribal.

Quick Hits
Emily and Christian are now the model's co-MVPs. Emily leads the season at +57.8; Christian is at +55.8. Both are 9W-0L in US50 votes. Emily has the edge because her lower entering rating (1549 vs. 1561) amplifies each win slightly more. Nine consecutive correct votes across six episodes is a pattern, not a streak.
The untested-player problem is solved. Every active player has now attended at least one tribal council. The model has data on all 14 remaining contestants. This was the biggest structural gap in the ratings through five episodes. It is gone.
Kamilla is the only elimination this week who had prior data in the model. Colby and Genevieve both entered and exited in the same episode. Kamilla attended two tribals across two episodes, voted correctly in Episode 5 (3W-0L, +17.3), then went home in Episode 6 at 3W-3L. Her final rating (1531) is barely below her entering (1543). Two tribals, one on each side of the vote, and the model nearly calls it a wash.
BEAST Update
When a challenge has full placement data, the BEAST model processes it as ordered matchups: the player who placed first beats everyone below them, second place beats everyone below them, and so on. The Blood Moon challenge had 15 participants ranked by placement, producing 105 ordered matchups. The result is sharper separation between the top and bottom of the field than a simple winner/loser split would produce.
| Player | Pre-Ep6 BEAST | Post-Ep6 BEAST | Ep6 Change | Tier |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stephenie | 1397 | 1526 | +128.7 | B |
| Christian | 1458 | 1528 | +69.7 | B |
| Chrissy | 1599 | 1656 | +57.5 | S |
| Dee | 1582 | 1546 | -35.9 | B |
| Colby | 1541 | 1474 | -66.0 | C |
| Jonathan | 1534 | 1456 | -78.2 | C |
| Emily | 1456 | 1372 | -83.5 | F |
| Rick | 1593 | 1484 | -108.8 | C |
Stephenie's +128.7 is the largest single-episode BEAST gain of any player this season. She placed first in the full 15-player field after entering with the lowest BEAST rating among active players (1397, F-tier). She jumped from F-tier to B-tier in one episode. Christian placed second and gained +69.7. Both received individual immunity win credit under the updated model.
Chrissy is now the highest-rated BEAST player in the game. She placed near the top of the field and her +57.5 gain pushes her to S-tier (1656). All three immunity winners (Stephenie, Christian, Dee) received win credit, but only placement determines Elo matchups. Dee won immunity in her group but placed in the bottom half of the full field and dropped 35.9 points. Winning immunity and losing BEAST Elo in the same episode is the kind of result that only a placement-ordered model can produce.
Rick's -108.8 is the largest single-episode BEAST loss this season. He entered at 1593 (A-tier) and dropped to 1484 (C-tier). Emily fell even further in absolute terms, from 1456 to 1372 (F-tier), a drop of 83.5 points.
The Ozzy-Coach BEAST gap is widening again. Coach dropped 30 points (1513 to 1483). Ozzy stayed frozen on Exile at 1556. The gap is now 73 points.
Compare: Emily vs. Christian
These two are the /compare defaults this week.
| SHALLOW | Tier | BEAST | Tier | US50 Votes | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Emily | 1607 | A | 1372 | F | 9W-0L |
| Christian | 1617 | A | 1528 | B | 9W-0L |
The SHALLOW gap is 10 points in Christian's favor. The season-change gap is 2 points in Emily's favor (+57.8 vs. +55.8). Identical vote records: 9W-0L across six episodes. The difference is in BEAST. Christian is B-tier in challenges (1528); Emily is F-tier (1372). The placement-ordered model punished Emily heavily this episode (-83.5) while rewarding Christian (+69.7) for placing near the top. If the game comes down to needing an immunity win to survive, the model gives Christian a significant edge. In pure strategic terms, they are virtually identical.
