Aaliyah out 6-2 after two Shots in the Dark, down 60 points; for Episode 2 PROBST gives Toka 54% to return to tribal and has Jenna at 9.9% to go home
TL;DR: Toka lost the only challenge and voted out Aaliyah 6-2 after she and Jenna both played their Shots in the Dark. Aaliyah leaves at 1440, down 60 points, the cost of being first out of a tribe of 10. Devin and Jelly voted for Jenna and drop to 1480; the 6 who voted Aaliyah rise to 1516. Rob found an idol on Savu. For Episode 2 PROBST gives Toka a 54% chance of going back to tribal council and has Jenna at 9.9% to go home, Jelly 8.2%, Devin 7.2%, with everyone else near 5%.
Episode Summary: SurvivorElo Episode 1
Quick refresher: SHALLOW rates strategic positioning (voting correctly + outlasting). BEAST rates challenge performance. Both use Elo, so gains and losses depend on relative ratings. Full methodology at survivorelo.com.
New this season: PROBST (PRobabilistic Odds for Boots, Swaps and Tribals) forecasts each episode before it airs, from the votes, ratings, airtime and idols in the data. The Predictions page has this week's odds; each recap will score the forecast for the episode that just aired and show the one for the next.
Episode 1: What Happened
The 21 new players started on one beach and were split into 2 tribes of 10. Lewis volunteered for Exile Island, where he was safe from the vote and had one shot at an idol: chop down a mast inside a time limit. He did not get close and spent about 30 hours there. Rob found an idol on Savu, one with no conditions attached. Savu won the immunity challenge, a course of crates, a cargo net and a puzzle. Aaliyah struggled at the knots; Jenna was solid on the puzzle. Toka went to tribal council.
Jenna and Aaliyah were the 2 names. Both played their Shots in the Dark, both drew Not Safe, and neither cast a vote. The other 8 split 6 for Aaliyah (Brady, Danny, Maggie, Mike, Patt, Thien An) and 2 for Jenna (Devin, Jelly). Aaliyah was voted out 6-2. Lewis joined Toka as its tenth member after the vote.
The Toka Vote
Every player in this cast starts at 1500. The 10 who went to tribal are the 10 whose ratings have moved.
| Player | Vote | Vote record | Outlast record | Start | End | Change |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brady | Aaliyah | 3-0 | 1-0 | 1500.0 | 1516.0 (C) | +16.0 |
| Danny | Aaliyah | 3-0 | 1-0 | 1500.0 | 1516.0 (C) | +16.0 |
| Maggie | Aaliyah | 3-0 | 1-0 | 1500.0 | 1516.0 (C) | +16.0 |
| Mike | Aaliyah | 3-0 | 1-0 | 1500.0 | 1516.0 (C) | +16.0 |
| Patt | Aaliyah | 3-0 | 1-0 | 1500.0 | 1516.0 (C) | +16.0 |
| Thien An | Aaliyah | 3-0 | 1-0 | 1500.0 | 1516.0 (C) | +16.0 |
| Jenna | Shot in the Dark | 0-0 | 1-0 | 1500.0 | 1504.0 (C) | +4.0 |
| Devin | Jenna | 0-6 | 1-0 | 1500.0 | 1480.0 (C) | -20.0 |
| Jelly | Jenna | 0-6 | 1-0 | 1500.0 | 1480.0 (C) | -20.0 |
| Aaliyah | Shot in the Dark | 0-6 | 0-9 | 1500.0 | 1440.0 (D) | -60.0 |
With every rating at 1500, each matchup is worth exactly 4 points. The 6 correct voters each beat the 3 players who did not vote Aaliyah (Devin, Jelly and Aaliyah herself) for +12, and outlasted Aaliyah for +4. Devin and Jelly lost a matchup to each of the 6 correct voters, -24, and got +4 back for outlasting Aaliyah.
2 Shots in the Dark, 2 outcomes in SHALLOW. Jenna forfeited her vote and survived. She has no vote matchups at all this week, wins or losses; her +4.0 is the outlast credit for staying past Aaliyah. Aaliyah forfeited her vote and went home. Being voted out counts as a loss to every correct voter, so she takes the 6 vote losses even though she never cast a ballot, and 9 outlast losses on top. The model records each as "no vote: Shot in the dark".
Aaliyah's -60.0 is a function of tribe size. In the seasons with 3 tribes, a first boot voted out 5-1 from a tribe of 6 lost 40 points: 5 vote matchups and 5 outlast matchups. Toka has 10, so Aaliyah takes 6 and 9. Jenna Lewis lost 59.1 as the first boot of Survivor 50, voted out 7-1 from a tribe of 8 while entering at 1582.
The model does not see why. Recaps report that Jenna spread word that Aaliyah had criticized Brady's effort in the challenge, and that Aaliyah's challenge showing put her name up first. SHALLOW sees 6 votes landing on Aaliyah and 2 on Jenna, nothing else.
What PROBST Expects
Scoring the premiere. Before the first vote PROBST had every player at 5.0%, give or take a rounding error. It knew the tribes and nothing else: no votes, no challenge results, no airtime. Aaliyah at 5.0%, 2nd of 20 by a rounding error, is not a pick and is not scored as one here. The forecasts mean something once there are votes to read.
Episode 2. PROBST gives Toka a 54% chance of going to tribal council and Savu 46%; Toka lost the one challenge so far, and that is the only form there is. One tribal council is most likely (85%); there is a 16% chance of 2 eliminations in the episode. Combining the odds of each tribe losing with the vote model gives every player one number for the week:
| Player | Tribe | Goes home | If tribe votes | Why |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jenna | Toka | 9.9% | 18.4% | received votes last tribal; has received votes |
| Jelly | Toka | 8.2% | 15.2% | wrong side of last vote |
| Devin | Toka | 7.2% | 13.3% | wrong side of last vote; more airtime pulls the other way |
| Cristian | Savu | 5.1% | 11.1% | less airtime |
| Everyone else | 4.9-5.0% | 9-11% | nothing separates them yet |
Jenna is the most likely to go home because she is the only player still in the game who has had votes cast against her. Jelly and Devin are next because they were on the wrong side of the vote; players who vote against the majority go home sooner in the historical record. Devin's number is held down by his airtime: he had 12 confessionals, the most of anyone this episode and 28% of Toka's. Airtime is the only signal in the data that separates winners from the other finalists at the end of a season.
On Savu no one has voted, so the 10 players sit within a fraction of a point of each other. Rob holds an idol, which lowers his chance of going home; PROBST has him at 3% for the season's next boot, the lowest in the cast.
Lewis joined Toka after the vote, so the data through Episode 1 does not place him on a tribe. The forecast carries him as the 20th player in the season odds but leaves him out of the Toka table; that is a gap in the data, not a read on Lewis.
Season odds. The rest of the season is simulated 10,000 times: challenges, idols found and played, a swap or a merge, a vote at every tribal council. With 20 players left an even share is 5.0%.
| Player | Tribe | Reaches merge | Final 3 | Wins |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rob | Savu | 84% | 24% | 8.2% |
| Devin | Toka | 74% | 21% | 7.3% |
| Eric | Savu | 75% | 17% | 5.9% |
| Kristin | Savu | 75% | 17% | 5.7% |
| Lewis | Toka | 70% | 16% | 5.5% |
Rob leads because of the idol. Devin is 2nd despite the wrong vote, because of the airtime. Eric and Kristin are next on Savu, again on airtime: 5 and 7 confessionals against a tribe average of 3. The simulation puts the merge most likely at Episode 6 (52%) or 7 (28%), and gives a 64% chance of a swap before it, most likely in Episode 4 or 5.
Read these as what they are. Before the merge the forecast rests on which tribe loses a challenge, and with 2 tribes that is close to a coin flip. In backtests over 40 seasons PROBST's first pick for the boot was right 18% of the time a week ahead, against 11% for a random guess, and it is weakest in the first episodes when few players have voted. It is not for betting: it knows only what the episodes have shown, and betting markets are moved by people who know how the season ends.

Eliminated
| Player | Tribe | Vote record | Elo | Season |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aaliyah | Toka | 0-6 | 1440.0 (D) | -60.0 |
Quick Hits
- 1516 is C tier. The tier lines come from the full population of rated players, whose mean is 1528. A new player who wins one vote sits just under the average; another correct vote or 2 takes them into B.
- Cristian had one confessional, the fewest of anyone. It is the only thing PROBST holds against a Savu player this week, and it moves him from 5.0% to 5.1%.
- 6 players are tied at the top. They will separate the first time Toka's majority disagrees with itself, or the first time Savu votes.
BEAST Update
One challenge counted this week: the tribal immunity challenge, won by Savu. In a team challenge every player on the winning side beats every player on the losing side, at a lower weight than an individual matchup. With all 20 competitors at 1500, every Savu player gains 6.0 and every Toka player loses 6.0.
| Tribe | Result | BEAST | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Savu (10 players) | Won immunity | 1506.0 | +6.0 |
| Toka (10 players) | Lost immunity | 1494.0 | -6.0 |
Lewis did not compete and stays at 1500.0. BEAST separates players as they win and lose individual challenges; until the merge it mostly moves in tribes.
